TERRACOTTA INTEGRATES SUN'S JAVA VISUALVM - July 14, 2008

Offers Breakthrough Visualization Capabilities

San Francisco—July 14, 2008 - Terracotta today announced it is integrating Sun's new VisualVM technology, which is included as part of Java Platform Standard Edition 6 Update 7, with the analysis capabilities in the Terracotta management console. The integration will provide Java software developers and operators breakthrough visualization capabilities that can help dramatically reduce the cost of tuning and troubleshooting Java software.

"Sun VisualVM and Terracotta's analysis capabilities are complementary technologies that can provide unique visibility across the application tier," said Janet Koenig, director of Java Core Technologies at Sun. "The combination gives developers and operators a powerful tool set they can use, leveraging VisualVM's innovative capabilities for event correlation, troubleshooting and identifying performance bottlenecks. Together they help accelerate and simplify the building, testing, tuning and operation of their Java software."

Terracotta lowers costs and simplifies web application deployment by reducing development effort and easing the load on application servers and databases, making it an ideal solution for scaling critical applications. With its release of Terracotta 2.6 in April, the company added cluster-wide visualization and management capabilities that solidify Terracotta's leading role in making scalability and high availability pluggable infrastructure services, rather than capabilities written into each individual application.

VisualVM is a new graphical, intuitive tool for troubleshooting Java software. Available as part of Java Platform Standard Edition 6 Update 7, VisualVM allows users to easily obtain detailed information about multiple Java software applications while they are running.

"VisualVM and Terracotta are a natural fit. VisualVM provides in-depth analysis of the virtual machine and Terracotta provides key information on cross-cluster issues," said Ari Zilka, CTO and co-founder of Terracotta. "Terracotta is making a considerable investment in tools that will ease the transition from single servers or small clusters, to larger clusters. Leveraging the Sun VisualVM technology will allow us to achieve this objective more rapidly and it's an exciting development for our community."
